I am SO excited that I can hardly stand it! Today we kick off an amazing giveaway here on Fashion Trend Spotting. First I want to say a huge thanks to the wonderful people at Handbag Heaven. They wrote up a really cool post about me in their blog from a Q&A session I had with them, be sure to check it out, just click here. I also want to thank them for offering two handbags for this giveaway. That’s right… TWO! There will be two winners! But they are also two different ways to enter. So let’s get right to it:

Interview with Kelly Cook

I had the pleasure of posing some questions to Kelly Cook, co-founder of The Bag Snob. The Bag Snob is one of four “Snob Channels” where the writers review bags, fashion, makeup, and more in their growing blog.

How did you first get involved with Fashion?

My first job out of college was for fashion designer, Mark Eisen. I worked in NY on 7th Ave and then moved to their operations and production office in LA.

How many people work with you at Bag Snob and the other Snob Channels?

There are 7 of us, we are extremely proud of our team and how hard working everyone is. My husband is the CTO, he keeps everything running and on the cutting edge of technology. There would be nothing without him. We also have writers, interns and I have a personal assistant.

What is one website (besides your own) that you can’t go a day without checking?

Net a Porter! Fortunately, shopping is my job =) I go on everyday hoping they have new merchandise.

Do you use Social Media for business? If so, how?

We have a Facebook fan page as well as MySpace page. We have special giveaways for our fans on Facebook and it is a good way keep our readers up to date and involved.

How would you describe your personal style?

I am casual and sporty. I love jeans and easy dresses, it is pretty much my entire wardrobe. I am definitely not a girly girl.

What are you involved in outside of Bag Snob?

I am a full time mom of 2 little girls so I stay pretty busy. I also have an active social life so I have a good balance of work, family and fun. We manage to fit in a lot of family trips because my husband and I love to travel. We recently went to Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Do you have a spouse and children? If so, how do you manage your family and your career?

I am married with 2 girls, ages 4 and 1 1/2. I have learned to be extremely efficient with my time. I focus on work from 10-2:30 p.m. and on most days manage to get everything done in that time frame. Before and after that, it is family time but on occasion I have to work late nights after the kids go to bed. Somehow I manage to fit in shopping trips, spa, salon and gym in that schedule! But family always comes first and everything else fall around it.

What advice do you have for anyone wanting to get into the fashion business?

As with anything else you do, you have to have passion. If you love what you’re doing, it shows. So that’s the first part. The rest is hard work and perseverance, unfortunately, I don’t have any secrets! Well, having connections makes life easier but that’s not exactly a secret.

My Top 5 Favorite Fashion Blogs

I’ve been weeding through many different style, fashion, and trend blogs. I want to tell you about my Top 5 Favorite blogs so you can visit them and see if they are interesting to you also.

1. The Bag Snob: Reviews of Designer Handbags, Authentic Designer Purses & Leather Bags

Ok, so the title is a bit lengthy, but don’t be misled this blog covers every thing fashion and style related. I think it’s the “be all” of fashion blogging. The most recent post highlights frugal deals; posts with money saving tips are always on the top of my list these days. The Bag Snob blog also gives you timely designer news, top fashion picks, and get this – the writer discussed MTV’s new reality show “The City” in a recent post. This blog definitely hits the top of my Top 5 list.

2. The Chic Leak 2.0

I like that The Chic Leak has moved into the New Media lingo and sets itself apart. I think this is one thing that drew my eyes to this particular blog. I commend the writers for that. The second thing that popped out to me on this blog was the post with bright red heels. Notice the tip of the shoes, they are tips from cowboy boots. A very interesting addition to the classic red heel. You can find little treasures like this throughout The Chic Leak 2.0.

3. Shoe Flair

You can never go wrong when talking about shoes. The Shoe Flair blog very poignantly showcases one pair of shoes at a time. The most recent is the ever so popular (and might I add warm) Ugg’s boots. I love that this site is simple with a picture and text plus more frugal, money saving advice. The site doesn’t seem to update or add new posts as often as the others, which is good for those of you who read blogs on a slower pace, and want to be able to keep up.

4. InStyle.com

I’m almost reluctant to add this blog to my Top 5 list simply because of the already intense popularity of it, but I remind myself it is a great blog. If you are the “keep up with the celebrities” type of person, InStyle.com’s blog is perfect for you. Not only can you read about all the inner-workings of the celebs lives, but you can also keep up with what they are wearing.

This is where I will remind you that you don’t need to feel like you must follow the fashion trends of the celebrities to be in style. Remember this website is about finding your own style in your own closet.

5. I HEART LUXE | Daily Shopping Magazine For Women

I think this is a great blog because it doesn’t stick to just fashion and style but it also pulls in neat and trendy items for modernizing your office or living space. The blog is also separated in a clean design with one item per post. I love the diversity of the blog and I think you will too.
